School Author Visits

Promotional poster for Gemma Wilford’s Ruby of Egypt school author visit, featuring her author photo, book cover and details of an interactive session inspiring young writers through character creation, writing techniques, author insights and creative writing activities.

Introductory price – £50 per hour session

I’m currently offering an introductory rate for local schools in Northumberland for my School Author Visits.

Now these are less salesy and more focused on inspiring the next generation of writers and storytellers, using my book as the focal point. I wish I’d had an author come into school when I was younger, so even if I inspire just one person in these sessions, that’s purposeful enough to me.

I use the Ruby of Egypt as an example of character development, showing not telling in writing and building up suspense and cliffhangers.

Ruby of Egypt author visit presentation by Gemma Wilford, introducing the story, characters, Ancient Egyptian history and creative writing activities for Year 6 pupils.

In 2026, I have visited Years 5 and 6 at Cragside Church of England Primary School as well as Year 5 at Beaconhill Community Primary School. I have received positive feedback from the staff and the students, and it was amazing to see so many children engaged in the session. I love hearing the ideas that they come up with for stories of their own.

I love showing the children that if they keep reading, writing and imagining, that they too can be authors.
